Dialogue
Design Week organised in Budapest for the fifth consecutive year broke every earlier record by attracting close to 60,000 visitors and has become a festival of national importance. The success of the program series can also be attributed to the exceptional media coverage also indicated by the fact that 2.5 million visitors clicked on the www.design7.hu web site. Design Week this year took place between October 3rd and 12th organised by Design Terminal Kht. with the patronage of the Hungarian Design Council. The exuberant program of the ten days offered great opportunities for those interested in the field. Altogether seventy different events, exhibitions, fashion shows, presentations and roundtables awaited visitors at dozens of venues. For the first time in the history of the Budapest design weeks, this year we welcomed a star designer guest, one of the most original figures in the contemporary design scene, the Dutch Marcel Wanders. Design Terminal opened an exhibition for the first time ever in its Erzsébet Square building – it was called 'For the Road' and visitors could get to know the new face, the most recent architectural and design wonders of 25 European cities. A discount program was also organised with the participation of more than 50 co-operating partners offering 15% discount for the celebration of Design Week's fifth anniversary.
„Design addicts, join the dialogue, as it is very colourful this year!”
Pesti Est (program magazine), October 2nd 2008, Tímea Tóth
„This year's festival can take pride in several delicacies – first of all in the number of programs.”
Népszava (national daily), October 3rd 2008, P.ZS.
„The sweep of Hungarian design seems to endure, as year after year a bigger and bigger team starts up in the beginning of October to prove the audience, the industry, the profession, the politics of the profession and everyone thinking about the present and the future to pay attention: here comes something different.”
kultura.hu (cultural web magazine), October 13th 2008, Eszter Götz
„The diary of the exhibition was not an alibi: the rich program called for full-time attendance and, while similar festivals are mainly about striking presence, here many events required complete attention.”
Műértő (cultural magazine), November 20th 2008, Tóta József
