Library of the Museum of Applied ArtsCollection:
Enrichment of the library is continuous since 1872, and nowadays it counts up to around 50,000 volumes and books and another 15,000 (inventory unit) periodicals, which means more than 1,000 titles of periodicals. The linguistic variety of the collection composed mainly by books written in different languages well demonstrates the changes in the history of the library. At the beginning and around the turn of the century German books were dominant, in the 1950-1960's the number of Russian publications were increasing and from the 1980's English publications seem to take over, which by now is demonstrating the change in requirements. The whole collection builds up from around 30% of German, 30% of English, 20% of French, 10% of Russian and other Slavic languages, 10% of Hungarian and other small languages. Our national and international exchange relations play a significant role in the development of the collection, which are living sources for the growth since the 1950's and supplies us with such technical publications that are not available on the market. In 1998 we were in touch with around 50 Hungarian and 300 foreign exchange partners, who supplied us with about one third of the yearly increase of 1000 document. Lot of books were donated to the museum in the old times, but during the last years this amount has decreased, although this source still exists when every now and then an artist or a patron of art donates.
